Interbeing initiations

(2022-ongoing)

A series of activations accompanied with specifically produced edible offerings.
The initiations have been presented, among others at the Barbican Conservatory, Stanley Picker Gallery and at Cafe Oto, and feature in two publications.

The sky dancer (fire) edition of the edible offerings engage the element of fire. The edibles mimic molten lava as Earth’s blood, and they contain chilli to ignite metabolic energy to burn kleshas*

"The energy body is experienced in absence of language..."
Sky Dancing, Doyenne, 2022, p. 99

The edible (sun) contains a charcoal core, conceived for Sunlight Doesn't Need a Pipeline, an extensive project on decarbonisation programmed by Dani Admiss at Stanley Picker Gallery.

*Formulated by the Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh, "interbeing" posits existence as an interdependence of all phenomena. Hanh was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize by Martin Luther King, after he inspired King’s transformation into a radical advocate for nonviolence. The initiations likewise draw on Judith Butler's position on nonviolence.

Kleshas or Kleśas (Sanskrit: लेश, Pali: कलेस kilesa; Standard Tibetan: ཉོན་མོངས། nyon mongs) in Buddhism, Indian philosophy and yoga, are mental states that cloud the mind and manifest in unwholesome actions. In contemporary English they are translated as destructive emotions.
